Sprint

In Gold, we focused on refining the multiplayer and single-player game mechanics. Single player has been further polished and some minor bugs have been fixed. Multiplayer is now functional with some minor connection issues (avatar lag). Two players can cast at a boss dragon together and can try to defeat the dragon in the shortest amount of time. Overall, this sprint focused on polishing the current features.

Sprint Overview

  • Player health (three hearts) and dragon health bar added.
  • Spell quality update.
  • Multiplayer spell casting.
  • Multiplayer timer and dragon health UI.
  • Textures and environment updates.
  • Added practice mode before single-player gameplay.
  • Added music for main menu and game.

Progress

  • Progress on single-player:

    • The player now has health to keep track of (three hearts) and must dodge the dragon's spells. The game will end if the player gets hit three times or if the timer runs out. ​

  • ​Spell casting:

    • ​Adjusted casting direction from the base of the palm to be higher up (around the middle finger area) - this will ensure the user can cast more comfortably.

    Progress on multiplayer:

    • New dragon added as an enemy for multiplayer.

    • Two players can connect and cast spells at the "Terror Bringer" dragon. They are timed, and must defeat the dragon as fast as possible. 

    • Dragon health bar and timer UI added.

    General quality updates:

    • Changed the font to be more readable.

    • Floating islands added to the environment.

    • Grass texture added.

    • Low-poly fire added to trees.

Future Plans

  • Add more ASL gestures.

  • Add full ASL words instead of just the alphabet.

  • Refine casting and gameplay.

  • Research more about funding.
